Beavers Fall Short to St Joseph’s

St Joseph Bears defeated the City College of New York Beavers 65-60 after an impressive 2nd half rally.

The game started with both teams running a fastbreak situation. Both teams committed several turnovers early in the game. Beavers scored some of their early points in the paint. Beavers and Bears exchanged baskets as they kept the game very intense throughout most of the first half. CCNY lead 24-19 with 3:47 to go until they began to commit fouls. This brought St Joseph back into the game for a while until the Beavers closed the half with a 6-1 run leading 29-24. CCNY shot .375 from the field, while the Bears shot .281 during the first half.

The second half was a different story and a remarkable turnaround for St Joseph.

When CCNY led 36-30 with 17:12 to go. Bears called timeout. After coming out a 30 second timeout, the team locked in a zone that featured with the long ball. Michael Megafu hit a big three to make the 36-33. Megafu’s three pointer changed the momentum of the game. Bears and Beavers would battle it out as the Bears kept creeping in. St Joseph grabbed their first lead of the game since the first half 45-43, after a layup by Matt O’Neill scoring a fastbreak point in the paint. Beavers tried to keep up with the Bears but they couldn’t. David Solano missed a game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds of the game.

Bears outscored the Beavers 41-31 in the second half. They shot an impressive 60% from the three-point line and 50% from the field. Alec Willis led the Bears with 12 points, followed by Michael Megafu with 11 points going 4-4 from the line. Beavers went 0 for 5 from the yard. Darius Rhodes led the Beavers with 12 points.

Beavers fall to 5-4. The Beavers improve to 6-4. The Beavers will have a chance to redeem themselves as they face off Manhattanville tomorrow at 1pm.
