It is the time for Miguel’s Friday Thoughts. It has been an exciting week for sports. It will continue to be that way with this weekend’s divisional playoff games.
Before going further with that, let’s all wish the best to ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen who is diagnosed with throat cancer. We all wish him the best and hopefully he can beat this awful disease. Nobody deserves to go through the process of cancer. Hopefully, we find a cure for this disease. We should never lose anybody because of cancer. Get well soon Mr. Chris Mortensen.
This week of sports was a good one. Alabama defeats Clemson in the national championship game. It was a very high scoring game as both teams combined for 86 points. Nick Saban won his 5th championship. Jimmy Butler had the first 50-point, 5 rebound and 5 assist game for Chicago since Michael Jordan in March 1993. Chip Kelly is the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Rams football is back in Los Angeles. Men’s Basketball Connecticut College beat the City College of New York with a buzzer beater in one of the greatest games that’s underappreciated in college basketball.
The Chiefs/Patriots matchup could be a very good one. However, it won’t be the same without Jeremy Maclin 100%. It’s not just Maclin, Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, Spencer Ware and Albert Wilson are all listed as questionable for the Chiefs. We’re not even sure if Julius Edelman will be 100% for tomorrow’s game. It’s unfortunate when we don’t get to see two teams face each other in the playoffs with full durability. Despite of the injuries, I prefer the Chiefs facing the Patriots instead of the Bengals because the Chiefs defense had a great game plan against Brady and the Patriots in their last meeting. Chiefs have won 11 straight and they have been playing great football lately.
Packers/Cardinals matchup will be a fun one to watch. Will Rodgers finally get a playoff win outside of his division? Will the Cardinals defense pressure him? This is a tough one to pick because you have a guy like Aaron Rodgers, who has a experience in these situations and you don’t never want to go against him. The Cardinals are a great defensive team. Cardinals Quarterback Carson Palmer is a MVP candidate this season.
Same thing goes for the Seahawks/Panthers game on Sunday. I wouldn’t be surprise if the Seahawks win a big game in Carolina after last Sunday’s miracle win against the Minnesota Vikings. God was completely on their side when that field goal kick was missed. I expect Peyton Manning and the Broncos to handle their business at Mile High against the Steelers. A must win game for Manning.
