CCNY Beavers Hangs On To York College

Men’s Basketball team City College of New York Beavers hang on to defeat York College 76-71.

City struggled in the first couple of minutes of the first half. They couldn’t get a basket to go in. York started with a 6-0 run. After the timeout, City got into the rhythm and began to play some very good basketball. They kept driving to the basket and drawing fouls, as they torture York College all night long with fouls. By the end of the first half, City lead York College 39-27. City made 11 out of 14 free throws. Guard Khalil Hamer led the Beavers at the half with 11 points and 5 boards.

As the second half approached, things got very interesting. York College found a way to get back into the game. City began to commit turnovers that resulted York to get back into the game. After going 0 for 5 from the three point line, York College made 4 out of 7 three pointers in the second half. York tried to catch up, but City went up as many as 15 points. However, York College again managed their way to make a comeback in the final minutes of the game. The Beavers were outscored 44-37 in the second half, but they were able to hold off the Cardinals for the 76-71 victory.

Mark Richards led the Beavers with 22 points, while Dionisio added 15 and Hamer had 11. Dionisio led with nine rebounds, while Richards recorded eight. The Beavers shot an impressive 49.1 percent from the field on the game, while holding York to a 38.8 field goal percentage.
