Men’s Volleyball Beavers Silence Bulldogs

The City College of New York men’s volleyball team swept Brooklyn College 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-14) on Wednesday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Beavers improve to 5-9, 4-4 CUNYAC, while Brooklyn falls to 5-11, 2-5 CUNYAC.

The first set was a lot of back-and-forth action between the conference foes. City took a 11-8 lead that Brooklyn would be unable to catch-up to. Try as they might, the Bulldogs could not stop the Beavers as they continued to dominated and hold the advantage in the first set. It was close, but CCNY took the first set 25-23.

As was with the first set, the second set was an exchange of points between the two teams. Brooklyn was the first to take the big lead of 9-11, but City would not give up that easy. City would turn the set around and take control with a 20-18 lead. It would be that lead that they would not give up as they took the second set 25-21.

City started the third set on a 5-0 run. The Beavers, looking to sweep the conference opponents, fought hard in the third set. CCNY held a 15-5 advantage over the Bulldogs. Towards the end of the set Brooklyn made some big stops to keep them in the set, but it would not be enough as the Beavers continued to dominate and took the third set and match 25-14.

Sebastiano Aqa led the Beavers with 25 kills, 12 digs and seven service aces. Edmund He recorded 11 kills and 11 digs in the match. The team recorded 14 service aces in the victory.

The Beavers will travel to Hunter College on Saturday, March 5 for a multi-match. First, City will face Baruch at 9 a.m. then they will face Medgar Evers at 1 p.m.
