The 20/20 vision. Yankee infielders, Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar are the first pair of rookie teammates – and 10th overall – to hit 20 homers in the same season since Joey Votto and Jay Bruce in 2008.
Who would’ve thought that these two young phenoms would deliver and make history very early on in their careers in a pinstripe uniform? An organization that’s very strict and express a lot from their players. Demand perfection. Give it 110%. Well, it doesn’t seem to both Torres and Andujar. My pick for AL Rookie of the Year would go to Miguel Andujar. He’s been phenomenal and performing very well in the month of August.
However, his closest competition, Torres, has dropped his average from .294 to .269 since returning from the hip injury that kept him out for 15 games. Torres has recorded at least one hit in his 11 of his past 13 games and is batting .350 (14-for-40), with two homers in his past four games.
With Judge and Sanchez out, Torres and Andujar must continue to produce in the Yankee lineup. Stanton can’t carry the load. Therefore, the Yankee must have patience with Torres because I believe he’s very valuable and he will bounce back. Torres just needs to see the ball better and be more discipline at the plate.
