My first time making some food on my own happened back in December 2020. One of the great things that happened to me during this pandemic is that it made me step my game up. It made me to learn things that I should’ve done years ago. I’m going to share with you how my first experience went down.
First of all, I was staying in my godfathers apartment. Him and his wife went to the Dominican Republic, which is their tradition every year for the holidays. On this particular day, I bought some rice and spaghetti. I kept waiting YouTube videos over and over about making white rice and spaghetti. I’m not going to lie to you. I was nervous as hell. I’m growing up. Doing all of this on my own.
I make sure to wash the rice, put water, salt and oil in the pot and turn on the stove. I’m no fool. I had to set the timer and follow every instruction I saw from YouTube. Long story short, I didn’t let the rice get mushy or burned, it came out perfect. The spaghetti came out perfect as well and it tasted better when marinara sauce.
Before I began to dig in, I had to take a picture and send it to the family chat. My mom and sisters are in the chat. They were all surprised by the news. I felt so proud of myself that day. The job is far from over, but this is a solid start.
To be continued….
