Avalanche Grab Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals

The Stanley Cup Finals kicked off the right way. Colorado Avalanche grabbed Game 1 by winning in overtime, 4-3, over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Avalanche players stepped up when they needed to the most. Landeskog, Burakovsky, Artturi Lehkonen, and Valeri Nichushkin stepped up with a goal. MacKinnon and Makar combined for one point, an assist earned by MacKinnon.

MacKinnon’s assist on Nichushkin’s first-period strike tied him with Mike Bossy for the fourth-most points through their first 65 playoff games. Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Jari Kurri are the only players above MacKinnon on that list.

Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has allowed 16 of his total 43 goals (or 37 percent) in the four Game 1s this season and a 1-3 record, usually performs outstanding from Games 2-7. Therefore, you can never underestimate him, and Colorado shouldn’t get overconfident. This series is bound to go to distance.
