The 31-year old Wynton Bernard debuted with the Rockies in their 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks, and let’s just circle back to game in a second.
Wynton Bernard was drafted by the Padres in the 35th round in 2012. Though he was drafted out of Niagara (New York) University, he was born and raised in San Diego.
Bernard never gave up on his dreams. He hung around in the minors for 10 years. In 10 minor league seasons, he hit .286 with 50 homers and 226 stolen bases. His first stolen base in the majors had a big impact.
The phone call he made to his mother about making it to the big leagues is quite emotional.
