Sports Throwback Thursday: Austin 3:16 Best Moments

Welcome to Sports Throwback Thursday. It’s 3:16 day. Here are some of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s memorable moments.

1996 King of the Ring

Austin won the 1996 King of the Ring and delivered the famous “Austin 3:16 says, “I just whipped your ass.’ Originally, Triple H was supposed to win the King of the Ring, but he participated in the “Curtain Call” with The Kiiq. The Curtain Call took place in Madison Square Garden. Vince punished him for it, and it led to Austin going on a crazy run which later on became known as the Attitude Era, aka Austin Era.

Stone Cold Refuses to Tap out to the Sharpshooter

Wrestlemania 13 featured an unforgettable match between two all-time greats, Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin. These two put on a great show on the company’s biggest stage. Bret Hart put Austin in a sharpshooter. Austin was already in a bloody mess; visually, it’s an iconic moment in the company’s history. You can see blood coming down Austin’s face.

Wrestlemania 14

Stone Cold defeated Shawn Michaels to win his first WWF championship. The match could’ve been better, but Shawn Michaels was dealing with back issues. Mike Tyson was the special guest referee. 1998 belongs to Austin. No one could touch him, and this was the start of the company getting over the hump against WCW in ratings, which WCW Monday Night Nitro was beating the WWF for 84 weeks.

Stone Cold Drives Zamboni

One of the best moments of the Attitude Era and the Austin/McMahon feud. On a Monday Night Raw episode, Sep 1998, while McMahon was in the ring with police officers, Undertaker and Kane, Austin drove to the arena with a Zamboni. The commentary between Jim Ross and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler was gold. Austin attacked McMahon, and Austin got handcuffed by the police. The standing ovation and level of drama make that episode memorable, plus Jim Ross shows emotion through his commentary.

There are so many memories and moments of Stone Cold Steve Austin. From the Austin/McMahon feud to Austin/Rock Feud to his special guest referee appearances at Wrestlemania. Austin singlehandedly revolutionized the company. There will never be another Texas Rattlesnake.
