Al Pacino is one of the greatest actors of all time. His range, his transformation, and his depth when he’s into character are unbelievable. He’s a fantastic method actor. He has won numerous accolades throughout his career and he’s one of those actors who excel in all three areas: Theater, Film, and Television. I’m not too crazy about awards, but Al Pacino should’ve had more than one Oscar.
Al Pacino got over the hump and won his first Oscar for his performance in the 1992 film, Scent of a Woman, where he played a blind man. He was very good in that film, but Best Actor should’ve gone to Denzel Washington for Malcolm X. I feel that Pacino won because of long overdue. Pacino should’ve had at least three Oscars in this trophy case. What were some of those films that he should’ve won? Well, here are my three picks:
1) Serpico (1973)
2) The Godfather (1974)
3) Scarface (1983)
One would argue that he could’ve won for Dog Day Afternoon. From 1972 through 1975, Pacino was on fire delivering one great performance after another. He was part of four successful films throughout four years: The Godfather 1 and 2, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon.
Pacino is 83 or 84 years old and he’s still going strong. That’s inspiring and motivating for any artist.
