The United States won the Presidents Cup with a final score of 18.5 to 11.5 against the international team. It’s the United States’ 10th straight Presidents Cup win and their 13th win in 15 Platings of the competition.
The Americans were sensational in their singles matches at Royal Montreal Golf. The team birdied 15 of their first 31 holes. Xander Schauffele and Keegan Bradley were X factors that allowed the Americans to capture the victory, but Bradley stole the headlines.
Bradley became the hero by defeating Si Woo Kim to secure the Presidents Cup. It was a feel-good victory for Bradley, and he redeemed himself after losing the Ryder Cup in 2014. It’s been ten years, but now he can take a deep breath. It all came full circle.
Although the international team lost, Hideki Matsuyama performed well on Day 4. He got the edge over the No. 1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler. He won by one over Scheffler and birdied seven of the last 12 holes. Matsuyama is a terrific golfer who should carry this momentum to the next event.
Xander Schaffuele had a season for the age. He’s the No. 2 player in the world. He came out victorious when he got the best of Jason Bay, winning 4 and 3. The two-time major champion made four birdies through his first 13 holes.
Team USA’s Patrick Cantlay defeated Taylor Pendrith. He did a great job putting and looking comfortable on the golf course. Cantlay was bogey-free with seven birdies, three on his last four holes for a 3-and-1 win.
It would have been great to see a singles match between two buddies, Scheffler and Tom Kim. They’re good friends off the golf course, almost like brothers, but they’re trying to beat one another during competition.
The Americans continue to dominate Golf, and the Presidents Cup is a blessing to the sport. Some might not like or are getting tired of seeing the same results. We don’t deny that a team with Scheffler, Schaffuele, Morikawa, and Bradley can make it tough on anyone to beat them.
