Ludvig Aberg won the 2025 Genesis Invitational tournament in his 40th PGA career start. Aberg shot a (-12) 66 in the final round.
Sheriff McNealy finished second. Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Rodgers finished tied at third place.
Aberg is one of the best young golfers in the world. He’s a complete player. A versatile player. Yes, he has his weaknesses. Aberg made 11 bogeys and had four three-putts this weekend.
The golf course at Torrey Pines is not an easy field to play. Many golfers avoid playing there because it’s very challenging to perform.
“It’s so much fun trying to win a tournament,” Aberg said. “There’s so much going on, and you know you’re excited, and your adrenaline is pumping, and you put it far, and to be able to pull it off is cool.”
Aberg had some difficulty closing out the two-putt in the 18th hole. It wasn’t easy, but Aberg managed to pull it through and secure the win.
“It was tricky,” said Aberg. “It was not a good number. It was right in between my seven wood and a four iron. Still, if I took a bit off the seven woods, it could come out a little floaty. You don’t want to mess with the water, so I like my chances putting off the back and misread the first putt a little bit, which gave me a little bit longer putt than I wanted to. Still, those things you dream of having, like those kinds of putts to win that venue like Torrey Pines, are really cool.”
How does Aberg feel winning a tournament in which Tiger Woods has had great success in his career?
“I mean, Tiger’s a GOAT,” Aberg said. “He’s my goat. I think he’s a lot of people’s goats, and he means so much to our sport, and to be able to win his event, it means a lot, and it’s super special.”
Aberg’s win at Torrey Pines marked his second career PGA Tour victory. His first PGA Tour win came in the RSM Classic in November 2023. He finished runner-up at the Masters in April 2024. In June 2024, Aberg reached No. 4 in the official world golf ranking.
Aberg has the talent to become the best in the game. He just needs to clean up his bogeys. If he can work on that, he can present a great challenge to Scheffler, the world’s No. 1 golfer.
The victory at the Genesis Invitational gives Aberg considerable momentum going forward.
