Minnesota Timberwolves overcomes a 25-point deficit lead to win over Oklahoma City Thunder 131-128 in overtime.
It is one of the most remarkable comeback wins of the season for the Timberwolves and in the NBA in general.
The Timberwolves outscored the Thunder 41-19 in the fourth quarter. Clutch free-throw shooting, an and-one basket, and Jaden McDaniels’s free-throw led the Wolves to tie the game late in the fourth.
The best play happened when Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards blocked Thunder’s guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 13.2 seconds to play. Timberwolves were up by one.
After the Timberwolves made two free throws, Gilgeous-Alexander had a chance to send the game to a second overtime, but he missed the three-point shot at the buzzer.
Rudy Gobert did not play in this game due to injuries. He’s their best defender, especially on the interior. However, Edwards made his presence known and stepped up on defense like a true leader should.
Edwards finished the game with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. He impacted the game from an offensive standpoint, but on the road against a top team like the Thunder, he made an impact on defense.
Jaden McDaniels led the Wolves with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Naz Reid, who gave the Wooves a scare when he went down late in the third quarter, finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 39 points. Jalen Williams added 27.
The Timberwolves improve to 32-27 this season. This is a massive win against the Thunder, and it builds so much confidence and momentum for this group going forward.
Timberwolves and Thunder split the season series at 2. Both teams might face each other in the playoffs, making it a must-see TV matchup.
