Braden Schneider, one of the most unlikely heroes, delivered the overtime game-winning goal for the Rangers as they beat the Minnesota Wild, 3-2.
Schneider scored on a backhanded shot. It’s his fifth goal of the season—his second goal in three games.
Rangers won 35 of 61 face-offs. Vincent Trocheck and Jonny Brodzinski also scored goals for the Rangers.
The Rangers snapped a four-game losing streak. The Rangers never trailed in this game. Here’s what Schneider told the media after the game.
“I tried to take some middle ice, and I immediately wanted to shoot it and brought it to my backhand and just put it there, so luckily, it went in, and thankfully, it wasn’t goaltending interference,” Schneider said.
Schneider was a bit nervous when the officials checked the replay, but he didn’t think he did anything wrong.
He couldn’t stress enough how thankful he was that it wasn’t overturned and felt the Rangers played well tonight.
Schneider is young and still growing and evolving. His offensive game has a lot of upside. Hopefully, he can maintain this level of composure and confidence going into the next game.
The Rangers are looking to close out their road trip against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. The Ottawa Senators and Blue Jackets are ahead of the Rangers in the wild-card race.
Saturday’s game against the Blue Jackets is a must-win game for the team. Rangers improved 32-28-6 in the season and are fighting for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.
