Jessica Pegula defeated Sofia Kenin (6-3, 7-5) at the Charleston Open. Pegula lost 1-5 in the second set. 2020 Australian Open champion Kenin didn’t go down without a fight and made Pegula work for it. Pegula stayed in control and came out victorious after a strong third set.
Pegula wins her first clay court title. It’s a remarkable achievement for Pegula. She never quits and doesn’t let losses get the best of her. The sensational tennis star will return to her career high No. 3 ranking in the world, and surpassing another Tennis great player in Coco Gauff as the No. 1 American player.
The victory marks Pegula’s eighth career title. It’s her second title of the season and her 25th win of the year. Pegula bounces back greatly after losing to No. 1 world player Aryna Sabalenka in the Miami Open finals. Pegula is far from finish. She’s only getting started.
