Oilers vs Ducks: Key Moments from the 3-2 Loss

Edmonton Oilers falls to the Anaheim Ducks, led by Cutter Gauthier’s two big goals in the second period. Oilers lose on the road 3-2. The Ducks won the season series against the Oilers for the first time since 2015-16.

The Oilers didn’t capitalize for the second place in the Pacific Division. The Oilers needed to win this game to get closer to the Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers remain four points behind the Kings, who lost 2-1 to the Seattle Kraken on Monday.

The Oilers and Kings each have five games remaining. Both teams have faced each other in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the last three years, in which the Oilers won all of the matchups.

Adam Henrique put the Oilers on the board in the first period. It’s his 11th goal of the season. Henrique scored on a tip-in shot assisted by Cory Perry and Jake Walman.

Mason McTavish added another goal for the Ducks, and it came in the third period on a wrist shot to make it 3-1. McTavish scored his 21st goal of the season. Jeff Skinner made the game enjoyable when he scored a goal for the Oilers to cut the deficit to one (3-20. However, the Oilers couldn’t do enough to push the game to overtime. The Oilers had a four-minute power play in the last four minutes of the third period.

Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal had a strong performance, making 45 saves to lead the Ducks to victory.

The Oilers will return home to take on the St Louis Blues on Wednesday night.
