Bryson DeChambeau, a two-time US Open champion, will defend his title this weekend at Oakmont.
DeChambeau won the event last year at Pinehurst against Rory McIlroy. It was an incredible year in 2024 for Bryson, and he knows he still has a long way to go.
Bryson has said in the past that he needs to work on some tweaks to his game. He came close to winning the Masters. DeChambeau is still working on his flaws and is not concerned about anything.
“I got some new irons in the bag,” DeChambeau said. “It seemed to help last week, and I hope it helps this week. I’m still working on it. We think later this year, I’ll have a golf ball that will be very interesting to test.”
Because of his personality and confidence, DeChambeau is not the type of golfer who feels unmotivated, but if he does, he will find a way to snap out of it and manage to focus on the task.
“I would say the only time I’ve had low moments is when I feel there’s no place to go,” DeChambeau said. “The equipment, my golf game, the swing, thoughts, and theories, but I always seem to find hope. The other part is doing it for the fans and the people who watch me on YouTube. That’s what gets me up in the morning.”
Bryson is great for golf and knows how to market himself. Whether he is booed or cheered, the game of Golf needs an athlete like Bryson. A certain fan base would love to see him win this week over favorites Scottie Scheffler and McIlroy.
DeChambeau is grateful for the relationships he has built and the golfers he’s learned from those who came before him. Losing his father was painful and gave him more fuel to make him proud every time he goes out to perform. It all falls into his motivation factor.
The 125th edition of the U.S. Open will take place from June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club. It’s been nine years since the event took place at Oakmont.
