Marlins Sweep Yankees: A Weekend to Remember

The Miami Marlins have stunned the New York Yankees by sweeping the three-game weekend series, winning 7-3 on Sunday at Marlins Park.

Marlins starter Edward Cabrera tossed six innings with seven strikeouts and allowed just one earned run. The victory makes it much sweeter since it’s the same day former Marlins manager Jack McKeon was enshrined in the Marlins Legends Hall of Fame.

McKeon was the manager of the 2003 Florida Marlins, who defeated the Yankees in six games. McKeon turns 95 this year.

Marlins’ sweep of the Yankees this weekend brought back memories for fans of that 2003 run. Is this Marlins team for real?

Kyle Stowers should be considered in the National League MVP conversation. He connected on his 25th home run of the season. Stowers finished the game going 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs.

The Marlins are 55-55. They will begin a series against the Houston Astros starting on Monday. Sandy Alcantara will take the ball for the Marlins against Jason Alexander. Marlins will remain playing at home. The game begins at 6:40 pm ET.

Marlins are in third place in the NL East Division, trailing 5 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres for the third wild card spot.
