ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Show over Charlie Kirk’s remarks, which took place on Monday night during his live taping.
The show is not cancelled. Kimmel learned in a phone call Wednesday afternoon that his 22-year late-night run on ABC was put on hold, at least for now.
ABC has hosted the Jimmy Kimmel Show since 2003. There is a possibility of a return. These are the comments that got Kimmel in a lot of trouble:
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and do everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.
Kimmel has been vocal about politics for a long time. The suspension of his show doesn’t come as a surprise to many people who have grown tired of Kimmel’s criticism of the government. However, the suspension also caused an irate reaction, especially from Hollywood stars and those who are fans of Kimmel.
Actor and filmmaker Ben Stiller is one of many Hollywood stars to express himself through social media.
President Donald Trump is among those who are pleased that the show was pulled from the air.
“Jimmy Kimmel was fired because he had bad ratings more than anything else, and he said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk,” Trump said during a news conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Trump is also calling for other late-night show hosts, such as Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, to be pulled off the air, following Kimmel and Stephen Colbert. Trump has said that all of them don’t have talent.
