NASA announced its 2025 class of astronaut candidates.
The candidates are United States Army CW3 Ben Bailey, United States Air Force Major Cameron Jones, Katherine Spies, Anna Menon, United States Navy Lieutenant Commander Erin Overcash, United States Air Force Major Adam Fuhrmann, Dr. Lauren Edgar, Yuri Kubo, Rebecca Lawler, and Dr. Imelda Muller.
All the astronauts took the stage, thanked the crowd with smiles on their faces, and the crowd clapped for the new crew.
It’s a massive accomplishment for the new astringent class. NASA made a significant publicity push to demonstrate to the world that these astronauts possess intelligence and are team-oriented. What’s impressive is that out of 8,000 applicants, only 10 of them made the cut.
The new crew will fly into space and return to the moon. They are built to explore. As for NASA, they want to land Artemis 3 in 2027. China aims to achieve the same goal by 2030.
An important consideration is that, in order for this to work in terms of reaching Mars, NASA needs to establish a base on the moon. It eases the risk to their success. So building a base will present a fascinating challenge for NASA, which they will be determined to make possible.
