Melissa Barrera will be starring in a new thriller film, ‘Black Tides’, alongside veteran actor John Travolta.
The story of the movie revolves around Bill Pierce, played by Travolta, an estranged father trying to reconnect with his daughter, Rebecca, played by Barrera, and grandson, Sebastian. When rogue orcas attack their sailboat off the southern Spanish coast, a fight for survival ensues across open waters.
Renny Harlin will serve as the director. Harlin is known for directing Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, and Cutthroat Island, as well as Deep Blue Sea. He’s built a reputation for making a lot of action thriller films. Harlin’s films have grossed over $500 million in the United States.
Chris Sparling co-wrote the screenplay with Angel Agudo. Intrusion was the previous film that Sparling wrote, which was released in 2021 and is available on Netflix.
Barrera has been making several horror films in the last few years. She was also in the movie In the Heights. Barrera is also working on a television sci-fi spy thriller series, The Copenhagen Test, which is scheduled to premiere on Peacock in December.
