It is a tough week for airlines as more than 10,000 flights have been cancelled ahead of dangerous winter storm conditions this weekend.
December, January, and February are months when passengers take advantage of travel to escape the freezing weather. Many who plan to return to their home state or country will have to wait a few more days until the weather is safe to travel.
Some folks who went to countries such as the Dominican Republic are planning to return this week, but won’t be able to because of the weather.
The weather is impacting many states. We are witnessing a combination of snow, ice, and sleet hitting states from New Mexico through the Tennessee Valley. There’s going to be much heavier snow spreading into the Midwest and mid-Atlantic.
Atlanta is one of the world’s busiest airports, and they have experienced delays and thousands of cancellations. For many of them, it caught them by surprise because they weren’t expecting many delays and cancellations, but there’s always a first for something. It’s very quiet in the airport, and it’s not looking good so far. Many people have moved their flights earlier, and some have slept in the airport.
Taking a shuttle bus can also be an option, but there have been cancellations and delays as well. Many people wanted to get to Atlanta for reasons such as uniting with their families for a birthday celebration, and some residents were trying to travel from Atlanta to North Carolina.
Passengers are scrambling for new plans. We can’t imagine the level of frustration many of these passengers are going through. The ripple effects are felt inside the terminal, and passengers must stay warm because anyone can get sick easily.
