Rory McIlroy had a dominant round one and two in the Masters tournament. He entered the third round with a six-shot lead, and now it’s vanquished.

Cameron Young has tied with McIlroy to make it a compelling final day at Augusta. It’s not the first time that Rory has suffered collapses at the golf course. It’s happened at the 2011 Masters, the 2022 British Open, and the 2024 US Open.

We hope it doesn’t happen again this year at the Masters. The last time we saw a player squander a five-shot lead at the Masters was in 1936, when Harry Cooper failed to win the green jacket.

Cameron Young shot the best round of his career at Augusta. He stayed patient and wasn’t overly aggressive. Young making great shots on the greens was spectacular. There’s no doubt he loves playing at the tournament. He took the opportunity of things that worked for him. Young made a mistake on the 13th, but he made the best to redeem himself.

“It’s a place that I love,” Young said. “It’s my fifth Master’s, and every time I come back, it’s a special place to be. Saturday 65 is not something I can complain about.”

Young has made some strides with his game. Developing some confidence is something he needed to do, especially when things are not going his way. Very good players who can turn negatives into positives, raising their results to a different level. We are seeing a player who’s playing a little more confidently and building up some steam.

Sunday is going to be a battle between him and McIlroy. The fourth and final day of the Masters is always going to be a fascinating moment to tune in for golf fans.

Although Young may have the momentum right now, and he’s been very humble and well-spoken throughout the interviews, in sports, we can’t count anyone out, especially in the final round.
