Elon Musk and Sam Altman were once friends, but they are bitter rivals now. Musk and Altman appeared in court in Oakland, California.

Both men were leaders of the ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. It’s a sad case that both men are mad at each other. Musk had filed a lawsuit against Altman for trying to “steal a charity.”

Musk, Altman, and Greg Brockman are the founders of the company. Musk has his own artificial intelligence company, xAI, which he started in 2023. The competition between these two AI companies is fierce. Tuesday was Day 1 of the case.

The billionaire entrepreneur appeared in court in a dark suit and tie. During his testimony, Musk credited Google co-founder Larry Page for helping him come up with the idea to staff OpenAI.

According to Musk, Page called him a “speciesist” because Musk cared more about humans than AI. Musk strongly feels that he came up with the idea for OpenAI. Musk wanted full control of the company. Since he didn’t get full control, he decided to leave the company and is now suing it. Musk left OpenAI in 2028.

The attorney representing OpenAI, William Savitt, thinks that Musk suddenly wanted to sue because the company became successful. The lawyers also believe that Musk is jealous and is basically being petty about the whole situation.

Musk doesn’t trust the company Microsoft. He didn’t take too kindly to Microsoft’s $ 10 million investment. Musk had concerns of Microsoft trying to control the development of artificial general intelligence.

Musk had a net worth of $775 billion. Everything he has touched in his career has turned into something magical. It happens with Tesla and SpaceX. Musk is not someone to be denied. He owns about 12% of Tesla and 40% of SpaceX.

Altman has a net worth of $34 billion. Musk and Altman have been successful in their own way. We hope that someday they can bury the hatchet and genuinely make peace. Musk owns no equity in OpenAI.
