Blue Origin founder and Amazon executive Jeff Bezos is not concerned about Artificial Intelligence taking people’s jobs. Bezos doesn’t believe that AI would tarnish everything.

In an interview with CNBC, Bezos spoke with Andrew Ross about AI and wealth disparity in the United States.

“There are so many people who are afraid that AI is going to take their jobs,” Bezos said. “I think there’s going to be a labor shortage as a result. There are so many smart people saying there won’t be radiologists because AI can read X-rays. These people are wrong.”

Bezos believes there will be much greater productivity. When productivity gains, it’s going to elevate things.

“We could solve the permitting problem,” Bezos said. “When you’re a builder, why does it take you six months, nine months, two years, five years, depending on what municipality you live in, to get a building permit. I should be able to do it. I should do that in 10s and not, and it should give a yes or no in 10s.”

Many founders and CEOs have been laying off employees, such as Mark Zuckerberg. Many people think it is because of the impact of AI. Bezos and Ross were going back and forth about this, but not in a heated exchange. Bezos tries to make an example and see things from a different viewpoint.

“If I’m a software engineer, I need to up level and think to myself, what am I really doing? What is the software a good, you know, a computer scientist software to do what we really do is we identify problems, and we help solve them, and the code is almost just a piece of execution that helps with that.”

Bezos is 62 years old. His net worth is 267.3 billion as of 2026.
