Knicks Reach NBA Finals After 27 Years: A Historic Moment

For the first time in 27 years, the New York Knicks are going to the NBA Finals.

The Knicks defeated the Cavaliers, 130-93, tonight in Cleveland. Karl-Anthony Towns led the Knicks with 19 points to go with 14 rebounds and 3 assists, while OG Anunoby contributed 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.

After the Cavs blew a 22-point lead in Game 1, the team never recovered. The Knicks dominated the rest of the series after Game One. Donovan Mitchell finished with a team-high 31 points, along with 5 three-pointers and 4 rebounds for the Cavaliers in the losing effort.

There were many Knicks fans in attendance on Monday night. Many were chanting, “Let’s go, Knicks!” The Knicks came into the season with a “Finals or Bust” mindset. After losing to the Indiana Pacers in the Conference Finals last season in six games, the Knicks finally have their day where they can bring joy to the city of New York.

There’s a possibility that the Knicks could see themselves in a rematch against the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals. The Spurs defeated the Knicks in five games in the 1999 NBA Finals. The Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder series is tied at 2-2. That series could potentially go to seven games.

Although the Knicks will have plenty of days off, hopefully Game 1 of the Finals won’t be too rusty for them. Sometimes, having too many days off isn’t good for a team in the postseason.

How about Jalen Brunson? He has surprised many people and proved many people wrong. When he came to the Knicks organization, no one expected but Jalen and his family that he would be a top player in the NBA, and even for the Knicks. His father, Rick, played for the Knicks as a role player and was part of that 1999 team.

Brunson is one of the best point guards in the game and currently serves as the Knicks’ captain. All the hard work and relentless hours spent in his craft are paying off. Now, he and the Knicks are four wins away from capturing their first NBA championship since 1973.
