Top-ranked Jannik Sinner is out of the French Open, dropping 18 of the last 20 games en route to a second-round loss to 56th-ranked Juan Manuel Cerundolo.

The final scores were 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1. In the third set, Sinner began to lose momentum due to his health. He has taken a medical time out. On this day, it wasn’t meant to be for Sinner. Sinner will focus on recovery and improvement for his next matches. He didn’t have the energy to keep going.

Sinner was on a 30-match winning streak stretching back to February.

“I didn’t feel very well on the court,” Sinner said. “I couldn’t serve it out and then struggled quite a bit. Congrats to him. I don’t want to take anything away from him. Played a very solid match, especially in the end, and that’s the sport.”

Sinner started to feel very dizzy during the match. He didn’t have enough energy and tried his best to serve it out in the fourth and fifth sets, but it didn’t go his way. Dinner woke up in the morning and didn’t feel well. That’s the competitor in Sinner. He doesn’t want to miss games and loves to perform for the fans who paid a lot of money to see him.

“It was warm but not crazy warm,” Sinner said. “I feel like it was quite okay to play, and really, it was nothing against the heat, against the weather. It was just me today, but it happens.”

The temperature can always be a factor when tennis players play after the Grand Slams. At the start of the match, the temperature was 84 degrees Fahrenheit and then rose to 90. Historically, the heat has taken its toll on players.

Does Sinner regret playing previous events before participating in Roland Garros? Sinner is not the type to make excuses and accepts reality for what it is.

“Looking back, it’s always very tough in the same look, I won three tournaments on clay,” Sinner said. “Amazing streak I’ve had. As I said at the beginning of the year, this is my main goal here: a very early exit. It was not what I was looking for, but you also don’t know if things would have changed if I skipped Madrid and Rome.”

With Sinner out and Carlos Alcaraz not playing due to injuries, Novak Djokovic is the only men’s player left at the French Open to have claimed a Grand Slam title.
