The New York Knicks overcome a 29-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs, 107-106 in Game 4 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks are one win away from winning the NBA Finals, and it will be their first championship since 1973—OG Anunoby with the huge putback to give the Knicks their first lead of the game. Jalen Brunson tried to win it with a three, but luckily, Anunoby was there for the second effort. The crowd went wild. It’s been a long time since the Garden sounded that loud in a game.
OG scored a playoff career high of 33 points for the Knicks. He hit the biggest shot of his life.
The camera focused on many people when the Knicks took the lead. Adam Sandler was there and couldn’t believe what he saw. Tennis legend John McEnroe was in attendance. Actor and director Ben Stiller was there. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld was also in shock. Some members of the 1999 team were also there, including Marcus Camby, Latrell Sprewell, and Larry Johnson.
It’s a major collapse and heartbreaking loss for the Spurs. The Spurs had dominated the entire game. One of the Spurs’ weaknesses throughout the series was their bench production. In this game, their bench was on fire. Offensively, the Spurs couldn’t miss. The Knicks showed resilience and never gave up. They started making runs in the third quarter and took it to another level in the fourth quarter.
We have seen the largest comeback in Finals history. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 36 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Victor Wembanyama scored 24 points for the Spurs. Wemby didn’t have a great shooting night. He went 9-for-25 from the field and made two of his eight threes.
Game 5 will be in San Antonio. The Knicks are looking to end the series on the road. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Spurs get inspired to win at home, but then the Knicks close it out at home for Game 6. Winning three games on the road might be too much to ask for the Knicks to do. However, these Finals have been unpredictable. Anything can happen.
