It’s a new era in baseball. Netflix will stream its first-ever baseball game to start the 2026 MLB season between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants at 8:05 p.m. ET.
The evolution of streaming services is insane. Netflix has come a long way as a streaming giant. Their marketing skills are top-notch.
The Yankees are entering this season looking to pick up where they left off. The Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays in the division series last season. We are seeing the same team basically come back from last season. Yankees captain Aaron Judge is coming off a third AL MVP. The pressure to win a World Series continues to intensify. Judge must set the tone right away for the team. The Yankees haven’t won a World Series in 17 years.
The San Francisco Giants had a successful offseason. Key additions to the team are Luis Arraez and Rafael Devers, but this will be Devers’s first full season with the ballclub after being traded from the Boston Red Sox last season. The Giants, on paper, are looking like a playoff team with the potential to surprise the baseball world. Buster Poser, president of baseball operations, is on a mission to bring back a championship to the Bay Area. The Giants haven’t made the playoffs since 2021, and haven’t been to the fall classic since 2014.
As for Netflix, they have been paying attention to other platforms such as Amazon Prime Video and Peacock, and have noticed what they are doing with streaming sports. Netflix joined the party last year by streaming exhibition boxing fights, NFL games, WWE events, and now they’ve added baseball to their catalog. There’s no stopping Netflix. They can only stop themselves.
Max Fried (19-5, 2.86 ERA in 2025) takes the mound for the Yankees. Logan Webb (15-11, 3.22 ERA) takes the mound for the Giants.
