Elly De La Cruz Powers Reds to Victory with Two Home Runs

Cincinnati Reds’ shortstop Elly De La Cruz had a monster two-homer game as the Reds defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-2 on Tuesday. Reds finish the game, scoring six unanswered runs. 

Reds’ starter Brady Singer got all the support he needed from his offense. Singer finished the game striking out three batters, allowed two runs, two earned runs, one walk, and seven hits through seven innings of work. Singer improves to 6-3 with a 4.60 ERA. 

Reds’ designated hitter Tyler Stephenson hit a home run to center field in the second inning. It’s Stephenson’s third home run of the season. De La Cruz hit his 10th and 11th home run in the 4th and 6th inning.

Centerfielder TJ Friedl went 3-for-4 with two runs and drew a walk. He’s batting .299 in the season. Third baseman Santiago Espinal went 2-for-5 with two hits, an RBI, and one run. 

Left fielder Austin Hays struggled behind the plate. Hays went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. Regardless, Hays still leads the team in batting average (.308). 

With the win, The Reds hit the .500 mark (28-28). On Wednesday night, Hunter Greene (4-2, 2.54 ERA, 63 SO) returns to the mound against left-handed Noah Cameron (1-1, 0.93 ERA, 14 SO). Cameron made his debut on April 30.

– Royals went 2-for-6 on runners in scoring position, left seven men on base
