The Oklahoma City Thunder defeats the San Antonio Spurs 105-92. The Thunder improve to 4-0 on the season, while the Spurs fall to 1-3. Thunder’s best 4-0 start since 2016-17.
Thunder guard Luguentz Dort led the way with 20 points, knocked down six 3-pointers, six rebounds, and two blocks.
Chet Holmgren added 19 points and went perfect from downtown, going 3-for-3, five rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
Shai Gilgeous Alexander scored 18 points, four rebounds, and five assists. The Big Three combined for 37 points to lead the Thunder to victory.
Holmgren outplayed Victor Wembanyama, who didn’t have a great night. Wemby scored six points on 1 of 5 from the field, eight rebounds, two assists, and four turnovers in 27 minutes.
It would be interesting to see Holmgren and Wemby go toe-to-toe for years. In this game, Holmgren proved that he can compete with a great talent like Wemby. The Thunder are the superior team, but the Spurs are going to be a great team in the future.
Spurs and Thunder are an underrated rivalry. The two clubs have met three times in the playoffs (2012, 2014, 2016). Thunder won two of those series.
Jeremy Sochan finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, and four assists for the Spurs.
Spurs committed 22 turnovers. Thunder picked up 18 steals.
The Spurs will stay on the road as they visit the Jazz on Thursday, and the Thunder visit the Trail Blazers on Friday.
