North Carolina Tar Heels falls to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 67-66. It’s another failed close-out game for the Tar Heels.
It’s the second consecutive game the Tar Heels have lost in a tight game. They lost against Standford on Saturday and now to the Demon Deacons.
This wasn’t a good game. Both teams struggled offensively. The Tar Heels shot just 8-of-32 from 3-point range, and Carolina didn’t even attempt a free throw in the second half.
Tar Heels should’ve had a double-digit lead by halftime. Elliot Cadeau was the best player for the Tar Heels. Although RJ Davis had more points than him (21), Cadeau did a little of everything. Cadeau finished with 14 points, 13 assists and five rebounds.
Cadeau also did a good job of staying out of foul trouble in the first half.
Ian Jackson struggled once again. However, it’s not fair to criticize the freshman too harshly since he did carry the Tar Heels for a variety of games by scoring more than 20 points in four consecutive games.
Aside from Cadeau and Davis, everyone else from the Tar Heels didn’t contribute much.
Jackson was due for poor performance, which happens at times to athletes. Tar Heels are hoping this doesn’t become a habit. However, his dunk in the game will go down as one of the best dunks of the season.
Jae’Lyn Withers hit his first three-pointer of the season when he gave the Tar Heels a 54-53 lead with five minutes left. After that three, it was a disaster for the Tar Heels.
The Demons went on a 12-2 run, and the momentum went their way.
The Tar Heels are on the verge of missing the NCAA Tournament. It’s code red for this team right now. Their next game will be against Boston College on Saturday.
