Alex DeBrincat scored twice, Lucas Raymond picked up three assists, and Moritz Seider added two assists of his own to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders.
The Red Wings were scoreless until the third period when they tied the game 1-1. DeBrincat scored two big power-play goals in the third period. The Red Wings’ resilience in this game was unbelievable. One of the most impressive victories of the season.
“I thought we played well for the whole game,” DeBrincat said. “We had a lot of chances. The first five were a little slow, but we got our legs under us and started competing a bit better. Axel has a huge goal for us there, and guys drawing penalties, it’s big for us. We haven’t been on the power play too much, and getting those two tonight is big.”
Detroit’s power play opportunities haven’t been so kind to them this season, but on this night, it all paid off dividends.
Axel Sandin-Pelikka believes that the Red Wings’ third period showed that they’re strong and are capable of being their best when they play the way they play.
“We’re strong,” Sandin-Pelikka said. “I think it shows that we don’t give up. We were behind one goal, but the game was far from over. We just kept pushing. We knew that if we had patience, we’d get our chances.
Head coach Todd McLellan coached his 82nd game with the team on Tuesday. He holds a 44-30-7 record.
Detroit improves to 19-12-3 in the season. The Red Wings will take on the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday night at 7:30 ET.
