Lindsey Vonn Confirms Complex Tibia Fracture

By Miguel Mike Medina

Lindsey Vonn broke her silence on social media after a scary injury in the final of the Olympic downhill competition on Sunday in Italy.

According to Vonn’s Instagram post, which is a lengthy post, she summarized the injury with the following:

“I was simply 5 inches too tight on my line when my right arm hooked inside of the gate, twisting me and resulting in my crash,” Vonn said. “My ACL and past injuries had nothing to do with my crash whatsoever.

Unfortunately, I sustained a complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple to fix properly.”

The 41-year-old is one of the most successful skiers in history. She has 84 World Cup wins and three Olympic medals (one for gold). Vonn won Gold at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Vonn is also a philanthropist and started the Lindsey Vonn Foundation. Her mission is to empower young girls to achieve great education and earn scholarships.

Before the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, Vonn had been away from competition for 6 years. We don’t know what the future holds for Vonn, but this is a tough injury to go through at her age. It wouldn’t be a surprise if her competitive career ended due to this injury.

When an athlete is super competitive, it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow to go out that way. We will see what Vonn and her family decide after she recovers from the injuries.
