Rory McIlroy wins the 2026 Masters championship for the second year in a row. McIlroy joins Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo to win back-to-back green jackets.
McIlroy finished the tournament by scoring each round: 67-65-73-71. He’s now a six-time major champion. McIlroy had a strong first and second round. He struggled in round three, but then redeemed himself in the final round on Sunday. The weather did play a factor to a certain extent.
“The wind was up a little bit,” McIlroy said. “It was gusty. It made things definitely a little trickier, especially on the back nine. I just had to hang in there. I did a decent read range session last night and tried to figure out a couple of things. I definitely hit my irons better today. I think I struck the ball better today overall.”
In sports, we have haters and naysayers. When you win, you’re going to affect people’s emotions. McIlroy returned to this tournament to prove that last year was not a fluke or a one-time thing. No luck went into it.
“I did want to come back here and prove last year wasn’t a fluke,” McIlroy said at the green jacket ceremony. “It is an absolutely incredible gold tournament. It’s so unique in so many ways.”
McIlroy has played in the Masters since 2009. He’s grateful and thanked everyone, starting with the chairman of The Masters tournament at Augusta. It is one of the few sporting events that has kept the same tradition for so many years. It’s what makes the Masters and golf in general special.
Justin Rose played a great game this weekend. It’s amazing what he can still do at this stage of his life. Rose finished the round going -10 (70). Rose lost to Rory in last year’s Masters and came up short once again.
“There was an opportunity to do better,” Rose said. “So obviously that is frustrating.”
Rose has re-energized his career in the last two years. Hopefully, he can take a crack at another Master’s next year and win it.
