It was the VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey show in Boston on Tuesday night. The duo leads the Philadelphia Sixers to a 111-97 win on the road in Game 2.
Edgecombe surprised many people with his performance by posting a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds. Edgecombe made 6 of 10 three-pointers. Maxey is Maxey. He added 29 points and 9 assists. Maxey gave Edgecombe a lot of confidence to shoot the ball. For the Sixers to have success in this series, Maxey can’t do it alone.
Philadelphia got outplayed in Game 1. Defense was a no-show. They were much more effective and aggressive in Game 2. The Sixers know that their performance in Game 1 is not who they truly are. They now feel good about their chance in this series as the series shifts back to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4.
Joel Embiid’s presence is missing. Embiid averaged almost 27 points and 7 rebounds on 48.9 percent from the field. He’s the star of the team. But the Sixers are not going to make excuses. The team fought hard to make the playoffs without him. The Celtics are a title-contending team. Therefore, the Sixers will have to play great basketball for 48 minutes for the rest of the series.
Jaylen Brown had a game-high 36 points with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Brown had 3 turnovers. Jayson Tatum had 19 points and 14 rebounds in 39 minutes. The Celtics had 11 turnovers in this game.
The Sixers made 19 threes in Game 2 and made 55 percent of their free throws. Game 3 will be on Friday night and will stream on Prime Video.
