Tony Award winner Alden Ehrenreich has joined the cast of “Miami Vice 85,” starring alongside Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler.
The movie is getting legs. With names like those three attached to a project, Miami Vice 85 must do its justice. Director Joseph Kosinski has his work cut out for him. The 52-year-old filmmaker is coming off two big films of the decade, Top Gun: Maverick and F:1.
Ehrenreich began to build momentum after being part of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. It took him years to get some recognition because there was a wide gap between 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story and Oppenheimer. He went through some tough criticism, but now he’s back with a vengeance. The new Miami Vice movie can give him more notoriety or more respect from the public.
He earned his right to win a Tony for his performance in Beck Show. Now, people will see if someday he can win a Golden Globe or Oscar for movies. There are actors who can deliver on stage, film, and television. Some can only come through on stage. Ehrenreich will accept the challenge. He’s working with top-caliber directors and actors. The shyness is not there. Momentum is vital in any profession.
The last Miami Vice movie came out twenty years ago, directed by Michael Mann. Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell were the stars of that movie. The film grossed $165 million worldwide on a $135 million budget. It was a success.
Kosinski and the studios are going to aim for $200 million worldwide. It’s a possibility when you have an Oscar-winning actor in Jordan and an Oscar-nominated actor in Butler. Miami Vice 85 will hit the theaters on May 19, 2028.
