New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson will be ready to go for Wednesday’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs.

It’s New York’s first Finals appearance since 1999. The city is booming. The ratings will go through the roof because it’s been 27 years, and championship series are compelling when a top market city is competing.

Robinson is 28 years old. He’s an integral part of the Knicks defense. Durability has been an issue in his basketball career. The Knicks are hoping he stays durable throughout the series. Robinson has played in 13 of the Knicks postseason games this season. Robinson averaged 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench.

Trainers will ensure his right hand is well protected, as he recently underwent surgery. The cameras will focus on his right hand throughout the series, especially if they see he’s experiencing any pain.

New York has been plenty great. Their last loss came at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks in Game 3 of the first round. Most of their games after that have been blowouts. The Knicks will face a very tough opponent in the Spurs. We are seeing a Spurs team that’s growing fast and got very good very fast.

The Knicks and Spurs have met three times this season. The Knicks won two out of three, including one in the NBA Cup Final, where the final score was 124-113.

Victor Wembanyama may not have finals experience. We may be just 22 years old, but that’s not an excuse. Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard were 22 when they helped the Spurs win championships (1999 and 2014) and were named Finals MVPs. Can Wemby join that elite group? The mission begins tonight.

The Spurs last won a championship in 2024. As for the Knicks, they are seeking to win their first one since 1973.
