Wyndham Clark wins the 2026 US Open Championship on Sunday, on Father’s Day.
Clark won the tournament with a closing round of 3-over 73. It’s his second US Open title. The 32-year-old captured his first US Open title at the Los Angeles Country Club in 2023.
“The first one was amazing,” Clark said. “This one seems even better. After a sour taste last year in this championship to have some redemption and win this again, it’s almost surreal.”
Clark had to block out the noise. The crowd was hostile, and many were rooting for Scottie Scheffler to win. In addition, it was Scheffler’s 30th birthday. Scheffler is the No. 1 golfer in the world and is very beloved by the fanbase. It’s understandable why the crowd was behind him. New York fans are a tough crowd. Some of their behavior was out of line.
However, on this day, Clark grabbed this tournament by the throat, and no one was going to steal his thunder.
Clark had a five-stroke lead and could have blown it. The last golfer to have blown more than a five-stroke lead in a tournament round was Greg Norman at the 1996 Masters.
“To be honest, I was very frustrated. I made some bogeys coming in, and I did everything I could to get over that,” Clark said. “I thought I could have been 9 or 10 under, which would have been a little better of a cushion with the best players in the world behind me.”
It was nerve-wracking, but once he got on the golf course, he was at ease. Clark had this to say about the fanbase in New York.
“They definitely didn’t want me to win,” Clark said.
Clark was the underdog in 2023 and in this year’s tournament. It’s rare to hear the boos, but he overcame the odds and came out as champion. Clark got to share this victory with his family, especially since his father was there to surprise him on Father’s Day.
