The Tar Heels got their 10th win of the season and have won 4 of the last six as they defeated SMU at home 82-67.
UNC shot 47 percent from the field and 50 percent from the three-point line.
RJ Davis led the team with 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists. He was the catalyst for the Tar Heels against SMU. The game ball belongs to Davis.
Freshman Ian Jackson and Drake Powell combined for 35 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.
Chuck Harris led SMU with 18 points and four rebounds.
SMU doesn’t shoot too many threes. They’re a good offensive-rebounding team in this game and play at a good pace.
However, the Tar Heels had other thoughts and were ready for the challenges. Tar Heels made SMU look inefficient.
The Tar Heels’ offense and defense were dominant from the beginning of the game. The Tar Heels did not trail in this game.
It is arguably the best defensive performance of the season by the Tar Heels.
UNC reached its first 20-point lead at 55-35 on a pair of Jackson foul shots with 13:39 left. The Tar Heels have been playing outstanding basketball lately, and they must keep playing this way if they want to make a run in the tournament in March.
Davis must continue to be a vocal leader and deliver performances like the one on Tuesday night against the Mustangs. Tar Heels will need that level of consistency from Davis.
SMU hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday, and North Carolina heads to N.C. State on Saturday.
