Toronto Maple Leafs’ Mitch Marner was the hero for Team Canada, which won overtime over Team Sweden 4-3 on Wednesday night in Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
The 4 Nations Battle has been superb so far. The crowd in the Bell Centre was electric and loud, creating an incredible atmosphere. Because of how loud that arena was last night, it felt like a playoff game.
Nathan MacKinnon got things started for Canada when he scored the game’s first goal. He received a great pass from Sidney Crosby.
Crosby was one of the top players in the game. He recorded three assists and had impeccable hockey sense. His pass to Mark Stone was genius. Crosby has done this for many years. That’s what makes him so great.
MacKinnon, Stone, and Brad Marchand all added goals for Team Canada. MacKinnon led the team in hits.
Sweden trailed 3-1, but then they rallied by scoring two goals in the third period.
Adrian Kempe cut the deficit for Sweden, and then Joel Eriksson tied it at the 11:01 mark. In the last 10 minutes of the period, goaltender Filip Gustavsson made several key saves. Gustavsson finished with 24 saves.
Team Canada’s goalie, Jordan Bennington, made 23 saves. Both goalies made some key stops despite giving up a few goals.
The crowd went insane when Marner scored the game-winning goal in overtime. This game will do down as a classic.
