The 29-year-old golfer Austen Truslow clinched a final spot for the U.S. Open after defeating Luke Poulter in a two-person playoff on Tuesday at Emerald Dunes Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Truslow is a former Hurricane Junior Golf Tour champion, and he will have his peers and everyone who was part of his journey rooting for him at the U.S. Open. It was an unforgettable day for Truslow. He’s looking forward to competing at Oakmont, which is the 125th year of the prestigious U.S. Open.
“It’s the best thing for me to accomplish in this game to play at the U.S. Open,” Truslow said. “I loved the chance to play in 2023. I’m really excited to get up to Pittsburgh and check out Oakmont.”
It’s Truslow’s second U.S. Open experience. His first one came in 2023 at the Los Angeles Country Club, when he qualified, but he missed the cut at five over with rounds of 72 and 73. Truslow’s prior experience could serve him well for this year’s U.S. Open.
“It’s a big overwhelming,” Truslow said. “You got three-hour nine-hole practice rounds. I have a bit more knowledge of what to expect. I think the course setup will be a lot different this year. Overall, I know I will be nervous, but it will be a lot of fun. I’m just looking forward to it. It’s a huge goal of mine to qualify for a major this year.”
Truslow turned pro in 2015. He has competed in eight PGA Tour events and made six starts this year.
