Disney is about to cut 1,000 employees in the next couple of months under the new leadership of Josh D’Amaro.
It’s a term that many employees fear hearing. The fear becomes more realistic when employees receive a memo from personnel stating they won’t need their services. Layoffs are part of the process when it comes to jobs, especially top-notch jobs in the media and entertainment industry.
It’s a cutthroat business. When it’s fair or unfair, employees must know what they signed up for. It’s unfortunate for those who have been with the company for years and have families to support. Hopefully, all those individuals who will lose their jobs can find work elsewhere sooner rather than later, or, even better, be motivated to start their own companies.
Disney is not the only company sending layoffs. Recently, Sony Pictures Entertainment has reached out to several of its employees about the decision they will make.
On March 18, D’Amaro became Disney’s CEO. He’s worked with the company for so many years. He’s been with the company since 1998 and has been praised for his outstanding work and intelligence by working across many departments, including sales, marketing, and more. D’Amaro hasn’t commented on the layoffs. He’s not going to stay quiet, and he will provide information about what fueled him to make this decision.
One of the reasons many companies are letting employees go is the rise in oil prices and the immense impact of the Iran war. There could be other lingering issues that contributed to these decisions. Disney has laid off more than 8,000 people since 2022. Disney is facing many challenges, including theme park pricing, content costs, and the profitability of its streaming service.
