Actress and comedian Rebel Wilson is facing tough adversity. Wilson, best known for her personality and talent in comedy movies, has been accused of defamation by an actress in the feature film The Deb.
The Deb is the directorial debut of 45-year-old Wilson. The actress who’s accusing Wilson is Charlotte MacInnes. In this movie, MacInnes portrays a teenager attending a debutante ball.
The situation became messy when MacInnes wrote to Wilson, saying that her reputation was ruined because of Wilson, and she told this in a serious Instagram post between 2024 and this year, 2025.
Wilson doesn’t believe that this is true. She expressed that MacInnes has changed her story, especially when the producer from the movie The Deb, Amanda Ghost, sexually harassed MacInnes.
Wilson believes that the actress is lying. It’s a serious and challenging situation. The Deb is MacInnes’s first lead role in a film. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September last year. TIFF is one of the biggest festivals in the world, and many Oscar-caliber films have premiered there.
Wilson has built a reputation for her charismatic and energetic personality, including her accent, in various comedy films. There’s no denying that these distractions are annoying and bothering her. Wilson also had to hear about AI Films because they sued her in a separate lawsuit in New South Wales for making defamatory statements about the company.
According to Deadline, Wilson took the time to say the following on her Instagram account, which we think she deleted afterwards.
“As the director, producer, and co-star who nurtured a project called The Deb from a three-page idea into a gorgeous feature film,” Wilson said. “I want nothing more than to have this film released and have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to get this to happen.”
Wilson is best known for appearing in the Pitch Perfect film series, The Hustle, and Bridesmaids. The Deb is a musical film shot in Australia and has a run time of 119 minutes.
