The Miami Dolphins showed up both offensively and defensively, taking down the Detroit Lions 24-17 on Saturday.

The Dolphins’ quarterbacks were solid in this game. Zack Wilson got the start for the Dolphins. Wilson made some adjustments without making a mistake. Wilson finished his night completing 15 of 23 passes with one touchdown and 151 yards.

How about Quinn Ewers? The former Texas Longhorn showed Wilson that he can compete at the quarterback position. Ewers held his own against a good Lions team. He made 11 of his 17 completions and threw for 116 yards with two touchdowns. We can say that Ewers git the edge over Wilson in this matchup.

Wide receiver Theo Wease Jr caught six receptions for 80 yards to go along with two touchdowns. The 24-year-old out of Missouri shone from the receiving group. Ewers and Wease connecting in the second half was fantastic to watch. Dolphins’ second-best receiver of the night was Dee Eskridge. He finished the night with three receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown. The Dolphins passed the ball so well.

Defense is vital. There’s no secret about that. The Dolphins’ defense showed strength and matched well against the Lions’ defense. The Dolphons outscored the Lions 10-0 in the fourth quarter and didn’t allow the Lions to score a touchdown in the second half. All of the Lions’ touchdowns came in the second quarter.

The Dolphins’ secondary was impressive. Cornerback Ethan Robinson ices the game with the interception late in the fourth quarter. His teammates Cam Smith and Isiah Johnson joined him to celebrate. It’s only Week 2 of the preseason, but that was a great moment for his young career. Robinson is a 22-year-old undrafted free agent from the University of Minnesota.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel spoke with the media after the game and gave his thoughts about his quarterback’s performance against the Lions/

“Zack did some good things in the first half,” McDaniel said. “He did a good job handling their early looks where they were playing zone from man alignments and vice versa.”

McDaniels knows how important it is to give his quarterbacks many reps to see what they are capable of. He believes in preparing his players before throwing them on the field.

There are high hopes and expectations for this Dolphins team this season. The team can go far if everyone stays healthy and consistent. The quarterback position must show up this season, whether it’s Wilson or Ewers.
