The Cincinnati Reds snapped the Milwaukee Brewers’ 14-game winning streak after winning it in extra innings off Austin Hays’ game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th inning on Sunday.

Brewers starter Jose Quintana and Reds starter Andrew Abbott were outstanding. Abbott had the proper command and knew where to put the ball in the catcher’s mitt. Abbott tossed seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Quintana pitched six innings and recorded four strikeouts.

Jose Trevino was one of the heroes of the game. Trevino put the Reds on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to right fielder Brandon Lockridge. Hays scores on the play. Trevino almost knocked it out of the ballpark, but Lockridge robbed him of a three-run home run.

William Contreras hit a two-run bomb to put the Brewers on top 2-1. The home run was a gut punch to the Reds because it looked like another deja vu. The Brew Crew have been the comeback kids this season. The team never quits.

The Reds answered by saying “not today.” They were not going to let Contreras’ home run deflate their confidence. Trevino tied the game 2-2 in the ninth inning with a base hit to right field. It was a big clutch moment for him and the Reds.

Hays had a great day at the plate. He finished the day going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. His double in the ninth inning was a vital part of the Reds coming back to win the game.

The Reds have 41 consecutive series where they have avoided getting swept. It may not seem important information, but it is. This victory was a big deal and the Reds must build from this momentum.

The Reds will travel to Los Angeles to start a series against the Angels on Monday night. Brady Singer (10-9) will take the mound for the Reds.
