The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Florida State Seminoles 28-22 in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday night.

For three quarters, the Hurricanes looked like an elite team. The Hurricanes entered the fourth leading 28-3. The way they finished the fourth quarter was a disaster. The Seminoles outscored the Hurricanes 19-0.

Three on-site kicks and the Hurricanes’ defense couldn’t stop the Seminoles in the fourth quarter. If there had been an extra quarter, the Hurricanes might’ve lost the game.

The Seminoles almost came back, but Miami held on. At least the Hurricanes’ defense played well for most of the game. A win is a win.

Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck played his best game as a Hurricane. He threw for four touchdowns on 20 of 27 completions and 247 passing yards. Malachi Toney and CJ Daniels had terrific performances as both men caught for two touchdowns and combined for over 200 yards.

Toney’s 44-yard touchdown was one of the best plays for the Hurricanes’ offense.

Hurricanes and Seminoles have a historical rivalry. It’s basically a sibling rivalry on the football field. Some of the best battles between the Hurricanes and Seminoles took place between 1987 and 1994. Many Hall of Fame players were on both teams during those years. Hurricanes usually got most of the wins in those years.

This is the first time since 2016 that the Hurricanes and Seminoles have played each other, both ranked in the AP Poll. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an exciting game between both schools played at their best in a long time.

Will the Hurricanes be at No. 1 in the AP Poll this week? Granted, seeing the way they almost screwed up the win over the Seminoles, they might not get that wish.

Coach Mario Cristobal must correct his mistakes from a decision-making standpoint, and they must remain dominant throughout the entire game. Also, the Hurricanes had too many penalties. That needs to be toned down before the next game.

The undefeated Hurricanes (5-0) will take on another strong team, the Louisville Cardinals, on October 17.
