The North Carolina Tar Heels are at it again. Carolina lost their second consecutive game in the Bay Area. UNC loses to Cal Golden Bears, 84-78.
The Golden Bears had so many open looks. Cal was draining three-pointer after three-pointer. It looked like a three-point shooting contest in an All-Star weekend. Carolina’s defense once again didn’t do their due diligence. UNC trailed as many as 20. Carolina cut the deficit to three but didn’t complete their comeback.
John Camden led the Golden Bears with 20 points. Justin Pippen, son of basketball legend Scottie Pippen, scored 19. Pippen made clutch free throws down the stretch.
Tar Heels Freshman Caleb Wilson led Carolina with 17 points. Wilson didn’t score in the first nine minutes of the game. Henry Veesaar had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Derek Dixon added 14. Seth Trimble was taking several foul shots and seemed to be doing too much. Trimble finished with 12.
Carolina shot a poor 33 percent from the three-point line and missed 11 of their free throws. In addition, Carolina committed 11 turnovers.
The Tar Heels fall to (14-4, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) and the Golden Bears improve to (14-5, 2-4). It’s Carolina’s second visit to Cal. The first one was back in 1972.
UNC will play Notre Dame on Wednesday.
