Amazon has announced that it will cut 16,000 jobs, it’s the latest round of massive layoffs as the Seattle-based company reshapes its business in the world of Artificial Intelligence.
Amazon’s headquarters is located in Seattle, Washington. It’s not easy news for employees who have worked for Amazon for years. When people work for a big company, layoffs will happen at some point. AI is changing the game, and it’s here to stay. Businesses have to adapt to the meteoric rise of AI.
Workers must find other jobs very soon. It’s going to take some time to land a job because employers need to go through an interview process and more. Many of these workers have a family to support. We’re sure many of them feel betrayed or that they should’ve been notified much earlier.
Amazon is focusing on grocery delivery and expanding Whole Foods Markets. Amazon plans to open more than 100 new Whole Foods stores over the next few years. Some stores will also be closing. The Amazon Fresh online delivery service will still be available in Seattle.
Amazon officially acquired Whole Foods in 2017 for $13.7 billion. It’s the biggest acquisition ever for the e-commerce and cloud computing giant. Whole Foods still controls just over 1% of the grocery market. Whole Foods was founded in 1978 in Austin, Texas. It’s considered one of the best companies to work in America, according to Fortune Magazine.
