There are no more games. 53 years of curses are over. The New York Knicks are the 2026 NBA champions after defeating the San Antonio Spurs, 94-90, on Saturday night.
The Knicks and the fan base have suffered for so long. Today, they can cry and celebrate. The Knicks won all three road games in the finals. A team that lost just three games during this postseason run.
What can we say about Jalen Brunson? He finished with a team-high 45 points with four threes, three rebounds, and three assists. Brunson has officially cemented himself as a Knicks legend with this championship. Brunson named Finals MVP.
“I have no words,” Brunson said. “It’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of.”
Brunson made sacrifices for this team. He took a pay cut. Knicks president Leon Rose is the Knicks’ unsung hero. He made key trades and signings to build a championship roster for the Knicks. The Knicks have been doubted, and their play on the court silences the critics.
“Whenever someone counted us out, we found a way to do something about it,” Brunson said.
Brunson and his father, Rick, who was part of the 1999 Knicks team that reached the finals, have been on this journey for a long time. Rick has been better than Jalen since he was a kid, and every summer they were training. Jalen has put in the work, and his emotions after the game said it all about what his dad means to him and everything the Knicks have gone through together.
Brunson hugged ESPN reporter Lisa Salters after the game. It’s rare to see a player do that after winning the championship, but it was pure, heartfelt. Brunson earned this title. Knicks
Karl Anthony Towns went through years of suffering with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He has grown as a player and stepped up big time for the Knicks throughout this title run.
Head coach Mike Brown finally gets a ring as a coach after many years of people using him as a scapegoat. It’s an awesome moment for him. What’s next? THE PARADE!
